Christmas table top.

Simple tabletop ingrediants: fresh greens, candles, pinecones, ornaments.
 I chose fresh cedar greens along with long needle pine boughs.  Then, I added some of my favorite decor items of the season: brass taper holders.  Along with the brass taper holders I used vintage brass egg cups and placed ornaments in them. (If you want to personalize your place settings you could use plain ornaments and write or paint your guests name on them). Pinecones were scattered along the display to keep the theme "woodsy." Plus, I'm all about using natural items for decoration.  It's simple, fresh & free!
cheers,

:: Some holidays details ::

a little glimpse into home.style.heart Christmasing...

The wreath above is one I made for my dad while walking through the pines on the property where I grew up.  I love creating; when I can create and be outside I feel so content.  Creating is the at the center of home.style.heart - creating homes and rooms where you feel most content and connected to your home.

A couple of my favorite dishes from this past holiday season included: North Pole pie, lattice crust apple pie, million dollar dip [THIS DIP IS FANTASTIC], stuffed pork tenderloin & my Nanie's rumball recipe...
I always try to find time for some handmade projects.  This year: popcorn cranberry garlands & hand sewn ornaments.

This season, I strayed from the traditional Christmas colors, for my mantle, and added light some blues and yellows.  I will probably thin out the decor on the mantle and leave this color scheme up for the New Year.  I love how it feels really wintery without being over the top Christmas-y.
There you have it - a few little details - short & sweet.
Merry Christmas.
xoxo,

Simple Fall Tablescapes::

 BloomNation, a flower delivery service that supports local florists through their online marketplace, inspired this fall tablescape/centerpiece post.
Their pinterest board is also full of ideas.  I hope you feel inspired!

Centerpieces and mantles are my bread & butter!
I decided I wanted to showcase something classic & simple for my readers:
 a nature, fall-inspired table that would be do-able for YOU to create at home.

Apples we picked, turkey feathers from our backyard, antique books, a candle - a lot of beautiful autumn pieces together can create a great centerpiece.

The next arrangement is similar in taking some favorite fall elements and showcasing them on a scrap of plaid flannel.  I would love to see what you create for your tablescapes! Follow me on instagram: @home.style.heart and tag me in the comments!

For more inspiration and for local floral delivery - check out BloomNation

thoughts and ideas shared in this post are all home.style.heart's.  BloomNation suggested the topic.

home.style.heart does fall::

fall provides such a bountiful harvest for home decor:
pumpkins. gourds. apples. squash. cornstalks.
gather 'em up and scatter accordingly :)
a simple table arrangement can be beautiful:
put your basket of apples in the middle,
surround with candles, pumpkins, gourds,
then gather around with friends & family.
the decor is great but, the food is better:
fresh apples.  pumpkin coffee.  hot, fresh cinnamon donuts. steamy cider.
below is [part of] our apple bounty from picking 2 weekends ago.
of all the fall activities - apple picking with my dad is my favorite.
happy fall, everyone!
see you soon.
xoxo.

The remodel: BATHROOM.

Last time we talked "bathrooms" here's what ours looked like:

There were A LOT of unexpected obstacles, that came up after this picture, causing a major halt in the renovation process.  Mainly, my husband had an injury and then the stomach bug reared it's ugly head though our house.  Did I mention our washing machine broke?

...moving on from the *ahem* delays - here's more progress...

Boys trying their hand at setting tiles. Makes my heart happy to see them learning from Daddy.
Hi, tile!!
oooo, ahhhh, the grout!
 I am very pleased with the subway tile and the dark gray grout.  I like the "old fashioned" feel of the darker grout and the contrast against the white tiles.
One last pic to show there's still LOTS to do:
Aiming for a "bathroom renovation marathon" this weekend...
Wish us luck and stay tuned!

Client Work: Spring Mantle.

I was recently consulted for a spring mantle.
I shared my visions of creams, cooper and springy greens and the homeowner was right on board!
I was given free reign and here's my creation:

Easter: Centerpieces.

 A few table centerpieces for you to get inspired for your Easter table:

#1: I gathered things from around my house: plants, candles, etc... I used browns, greens, whites and mixed different metals: brass, copper, silver and some amber jars. Everything is displayed in a circular tray. This is a simple, clean centerpiece and fairly neutral.
#2: For this centerpiece: gather your pretty dishes...stack them, place them in groups, scatter them down the center of the table. This is an elegant and pretty display.  Stick with common colors if you want a consistency through the display.

#3: This theme is a little "jungle-y" - if you live in an area where you have lush greens this would be easy for you.  Here, in Rochester, outside is brown and brown.  Instead of gathering from the yard, I used plants from the house.  This centerpiece is fun for plants, succulents and fresh flowers.

#4: If you want to incorporate all those fun Easter colors, here's a great display.  Classic and playful with pastels, Easter eggs and baskets:
